What Is a Home Rewire?

A home rewire is the process of replacing part or all of the electrical installation of the home, this includes all wiring and electrical accessories.

The purpose of a home rewire is to ensure that the installation is safe, reliable and does not include any poor or worn out wiring which can pose as a safety hazard or fire risk.

As cables are generally bedded within the walls or under the floor, floorboards and carpets must be lifted and walls drilled into in order to complete the rewire.

Once new wiring and accessories have been installed, the cables can be chased in and flushed within the building and plastered, switches and sockets are then installed.

When Do I Need My Home Rewired?

Generally speaking, if your home hasn’t been rewired in the last 25-30 years, it’s probably time to get in touch with an electrician. Additionally, there are several other instances where a rewire is necessary:

If you are planning a major renovation such as an extension, a full or partial may be required under the Building Regulations.

How Often Should a House Be Rewired?

How Long Does a House Rewire Take?

The time a rewire takes to complete will depend on the size of your home – a full rewire will take between 3 and 6 days for most properties. Following the initial site survey, our team will be able to provide an accurate estimate of how long the works will take.

How Much Does It Cost to Rewire a House?

Can You Rewire Your Own Home?

We highly recommend that you do not attempt to rewire your own home without the necessary skills and tools to do the job properly. As well as being dangerous if not done correctly, a poor rewire can leave you with electrical functionality and safety issues.
