What Types of Boiler Should I Go For?
System Boilers
A great choice for homes with higher hot water demand, system boilers store hot water in a cylinder so you can run multiple taps at once without losing pressure. Efficient, reliable and ideal for busy households.
Conventional Boilers
Also known as regular or heat-only boilers, these are perfect for traditional heating systems with a separate tank and cylinder. A solid option for larger homes or properties upgrading an older setup.
Combi Boilers
Compact and highly efficient, combi boilers provide instant hot water without the need for a tank or cylinder. Perfect for smaller homes looking to save space and reduce energy bills.
The type of boiler that will be best suited for your home or rental premises will depend on what type of system you have, there are four types of gas boiler; combination (combi) boilers, heat only boiler, system boiler and stored hot-water boilers.
Combinations (combi) boilers are by far the most popular type of boiler, accounting for over half of all new boiler installations in Britain every year and offering a wide range of benefits.
However, a combi boiler is not always the right option and the cheapest option is generally to replace your boiler with the same type of boiler. At Gas Safe, we offer a free of charge site visit, where our engineers will advise on the best type of boiler for you dependant on initial cost as well as long term savings.

Why Should I Replace My Boiler?
As boilers age, they become less efficient and more prone to breakdown. If you’ve noticed any of the following, it could be time to replace, upgrade or have your boiler serviced by a professional:
- You have noticed an unexpected increase in your energy bills.
- You regularly need to have your boiler repaired.
- Your boiler is leaking.
- The hot water takes a while to warm up and does not stay hot.
Additionally, if your boiler is over 10 years old, replacing it with a new A-rated boiler will result in significantly higher energy efficiency and therefore lower energy bills.
