    What Is a Conventional Boiler?

A conventional boiler is the oldest type of boiler that most plumbing and heating engineers continue to work on.

Unlike a combi or system boiler, a heat only boiler requires an additional cold water storage tank in the loft which feeds the hot water cylinder. They are suitable for properties where hot water demand is high.

How Does a Conventional Boiler Work?

Conventional boilers rely on a number of components to run including the boiler itself, a vented hot water cylinder, a cold water storage tank and an additional hot water tank.

The boiler works by heating water using a heat exchanger which is fed through from the cold water storage tank, this is then transported to the hot water cylinder for use, offering hot water on demand to multiple sources.

There is also an additional hot water tank in the loft which is used to regulate the water in the system and store and excess hot water.

What Are the Benefits of a Conventional Boiler?

Despite being a traditional method of heating, conventional boilers still offer a number of benefits to homeowners including:

    • Allows you to use hot water from multiple sources.
    • Ideal replacement in homes that rely on an older heating system.
    • Suitable for homes with more than one bathroom.
    • Compatible with solar hot water systems.
